I listened to The Dream podcast a few months ago. It’s all about MLM’s and the negative impact they have on people’s lives. I couldn’t get enough of it. I’ve always been so curious about these free vacations people are earning and their claims that you can “make your own schedule” and bring home the bacon.
To be honest, I was curious about the inner workings of all of these, but couldn’t picture myself ever selling my friends and family anything. There are plenty of instagram accounts I’ve unfollowed because of the nonstop sales pitch. Yet, now I’m a Beautycounter consultant.
How I Got Introduced to Beautycounter
Let me explain. A few years ago, a friend from college reached out and asked if I wanted to try some products for free from this company that she had just learned about. She mailed me a little padded envelope with 4 little jars inside. Four different products and I was hooked.
I put in my first order with her for some face lotion. I had been looking for skincare that I liked, didn’t have harmful ingredients and wasn’t going to cost me a fortune. Over the next few years, I continued ordering and trying some of the new products they released.
I loved the simple make up, the skin care and the sunscreen. I talked about it all the time. I was a member which got me discounted products and shipping. I was curious what it would take to just be a consultant because discounts, right?
Turns out, it was easier than I thought and pretty tempting. You just click a few buttons and pay an enrollment fee. You don’t have to buy any product to start being a consultant. They do offer some intro packages at even deeper discounts to help people that want to sample out the products and hold in person socials. I couldn’t pass it up so I found myself with a box of goodies.
Is being a Beautycounter consultant what I expected?
In the last two and a half years, I’ve continued with my Beautycounter consultant status and I love it. I hosted a few online socials and let my friends and family try everything and anything I used. I’ve used this blog to educate people on some of the harmful chemicals in the products you find on the shelves in stores. I like to talk about products that work and that I love – this is a great way to do it.
I have never once felt like I needed to sell anything. I just share it. Some months, I get a small deposit in my bank account if someone orders something. Plus, I get to order the products at a discount each and every time.
The coolest part is that the money that I make while being a consultant allows us to donate money to organizations we find while traveling. We don’t count on any income from Beautycounter, so every penny is helping us support organizations that we normally wouldn’t be able to while traveling on a budget.
It’s Personal
To sum it up, I love being part of a B Corp that gives back and has very strong company values. I love that my mother in law gets compliments on her skin all the time. I love that I have never once had to do anything that made me feel uncomfortable. And I love being able to order the stuff that my husband and I use at a discount. The best part is knowing that I’m using products that are safe and won’t add to the long list of dangers there are in this universe already. I want to share that with anyone that is open to it. Being a Beautycounter consultant has been a positive and simple experience for me.
Why share this now? I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how and when to share Beautycounter products. They have done so many amazing things in the last few months. The biggest being an anti-aging line without the harmful ingredients like retinol (which scores a horrible 9 on the EWG scale). My mom will be delivering our refills of products when she comes to visit in a few weeks and I’m so excited. Learn more about the line here.
